I love to teach and to share my love of yoga and meditation with my students. The emphasis in my classes is to teach students an awareness of their breath, and how their breath is connected to their foundation, movement and their core. Making a connection between the mind, movement and breath will not only change your practice on the mat, it can change your life in so many positive ways!
In my yoga classes, I assist my students by offering cues and instructions which may allow them to be more comfortable or move further into a posture. Maintaining fluidity, connection and engagement in the transitions between postures allows the students to go within themselves and achieve that "meditation in motion" flow.
The name "Sweet Smile Yoga" is a tribute to my teacher Mark Darby. Since 2000, Darby has been reminding me (and all of his students!) to maintain a "sweet smile." I feel that this is a great approach not only to your yoga practice, but to life! No matter what struggles we are going through, either on our mat or in our lives, if we maintain a lightness in our hearts it will help us to meet the challenges with patience, compassion and an open mind.
Sweet Smile Yoga aims to build a sangha (community) - where everyone feels safe, comfortable and welcomed to share their practice at their own level and their one pace.
Pre-2020, my goal was to grow an in-person sangha. This goal has evolved to include an online platform, with a vision of it becoming a combination of virtual and in-person learning and sharing.
The advantage of now having our gatherings online is that we have the opportunity to meet people from anywhere in the world!
Join me from wherever you are is an expression I use to invite you to our sangha. Join me from wherever you may be, be it geographically, physically, emotionally, spiritually, or any other facet you may think of! Here, you will find a welcoming and inviting place to land.
Often, what we are going through in our lives is reflected on our mats, and the opposite is also true. Therefore, if you learn and develop compassion, acceptance and patience in your practice, it will help you cultivate those attributes in your daily life.
My goal is to offer and create a supportive lighthearted community. One where you will learn how a connection of your breath, mind, and body will help you become a more centred, peaceful and grounded person. Capable of facing whatever your world has to offer. By all means, join me from wherever you are.
